Difference Between Covalent Bond and Coordinate Covalent Bond

the Major Difference Between Covalent Bond and Coordinate Covalent Bond is that Covalent Bond is formed by mutual sharing of electrons and similar or dissimilar atoms while Coordinate Covalent Bond is formed by one-sided sharing of electron pair with two, unlike atoms.

Covalent Bond

    1. It is formed by mutual sharing of electrons between two atoms.
    2. Two bonded atoms may be similar or dissimilar.
    3. Two bonded atoms have their valence shell incomplete.
    4. Covalent compounds either polar or non-polar.
    5. It is represented by a single, double or triple line.

Coordinate Covalent Bond

    1. It is formed by one-sided sharing of electron pair by one of the bonded atoms.
    2. Two bonded atoms are always dissimilar.
    3. One of the bonded atoms has a lone pair of the electron while other has its orbital incomplete.
    4. Co-ordinate covalent compounds are always polar.
    5. It is represented by an arrow.
