Difference Between Polar Bond and Nonpolar Bond with examples

the major Difference Between Polar Bond and Nonpolar Bond is that when the shared pair of electrons are at an unequal distance from both the atoms involved in bonding called nonpolar bond while when shared electrons move towards the atoms with greater mass is said to be a polar covalent bond.

Polar Bond

    • It is formed between dissimilar atoms.
    • EN difference between two bonded atoms is greater than zero.
    • Shared electron pair is unequally attracted by bonded atoms.
    • Two ends of bonded atoms become partially positive and partially negative.
    • Bond energies are lower.

Non-Polar Bonds

    • It is formed between two similar atoms.
    • EN difference between two bonded atoms is zero or negligible.
    • Shared electron pair equally attracted and shared by bonded atoms.
    • Two bonded atoms remain electrically neutral.
    • Bond energies are higher.
